What is in my Bio Jewell

Coconut

The coconut tree is a tropical palm tree. Its origin is very controversial and some say it comes from India while others believe it comes from the Pacific Islands or even Africa . The coconut tree reaches a height of up to 35 meters long and can live for over 150 years.

We have a wide range of Bio Jewellery designed using coconut shell, especially necklaces and bracelets. The fiber extracted from the coconut before the craftsmen polish the shell can be used in the production of mattresses and car seats.

Açaí

The açaizeiro (açaí tree) is one of the most fruitful trees from the North of Brazil. It feeds the populations that live alongside the Amazon River . The açaí berry is becoming increasingly popular and recognized as “super food” in Europe and North America as it makes a tasty and very nutritious smoothie.

It contains lots of vitamins such as A, B and E as well as minerals like calcium and potassium. Nutritionists recommend it as a medicinal plant and as an alternative source of energy.

Jarina

In its natural state the jarina seed looks as what it is: a nut produced by a palm tree.

However it changes its color and appearance when given to craftspeople that use their skills to transform it into raw material for the production of Bio Jewels.

The jarina seed is known in English as ivory or vegetable marble.

The Ivory plant tree has approximately 5 meters of height and a small creeping trunk.

Pau-Brasil

Brazilwood (or Pau-Brasil , sometimes known as Pernambuco ) is a dense, orange-red wood (which takes a high shine), and it is the premier wood used for making bows for string instruments from the violin family. The wood also yields a red dye called brazilin , which oxidizes to brazilein .

In the bow making business, the best quality Brazilwood bows are referred to as "Pernambuco", while those bows of lesser quality wood from this species are often called "Brazilwood".

Paxiubao

Palm tree of approximately 20 meters high. It produces a small and hard coconut that is widely used in the production of Bio Jewels. The wood extracted from this palm is also used to build walls and flooring for many of the houses from cabocla communities in Brazil .

Jatobá

Jatobá is a South American tree, also known as Brazilian cherry .

Important timber tree, used for furniture, (sometimes compared with mahogany), carpentry, general construction, wheels and cogs, dugouts, shipbuilding, crossties, posts, looms, cartwheels, etc.

Jatobá is widely used in folk medicine. It has been reported by shamans to be effective as painkiller, antiseptic, astringent, expectorant, laxative, pectoral, purgative, sedative, stomachic, stimulant, tonic and vermifuge.

Sibipiruna

Originally from Brazil the Sibipiruna tree can reach 18 meters height and is easily found in the Brazilian Rainforest. It is mostly used for urban landscaping and for replanting projects for its quick growing and high levels of germination.
